Birdie is an open source apps on linux deskstop. birdie is a Twitter client written with GNU/Linux in mind. Birdie makes use of native technologies like Gtk and GLib to provide a pleasant experience to the user, while integrating seamlessly with the user’s desktop environment.

- Opensource – Birdie is built by volunteers. All the source code is licensed under the GPLv3 and freely available for anyone to use, modify or share.
- Fast and Intuitive – Birdie is fast, easy to use and works great. It provides all the basic Twitter features and allows you to enjoy Twitter right on your desktop.
Birdie provide official packages for Ubuntu, Fedora, openSUSE, elementary OS and Arch Linux.
1. To install birdie on Linux Desktop.
Birdie provide and officialy support packages in 32 and 64 bits for some of the most popular GNU/Linux distributions.
Install from the repositories
You can also install Birdie adding the repository for your specific distribution.
for Ubuntu
Birdie can be installed from our PPA, which provides automatic updates whenever we improve the application.
Before installing Birdie, you need to upgrade your Gtk version to 3.10.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Add the PPA and install Birdie:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:birdie-team/backports sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install birdie
On ubuntu 14.04 install the latest and stable
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:birdie-team/stable sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install birdie
Fedora 20
Birdie can be installed from our repository, which provides automatic updates whenever we improve the application.
cd /etc/yum.repos.d/ wget http://download.opensuse.$ org/repositories/home:ivonunes/Fedora_20/home:ivonunes.repo yum install birdie
Arch Linux (Using Yaourt)
Birdie can be installed from the Arch User Repository. If you have Yaourt installed, you can follow the instructions below. Otherwise, you’ll have to build the package manually.
yaourt -S birdie
OpenSUSE 13.1
Birdie can be installed from our repository, which provides automatic updates whenever we improve the application.
zypper addrepo http://download.opensuse.$ org/repositories/home:ivonunes/openSUSE_13.1/home:ivonunes.repo zypper refresh zypper install birdie
elementary OS Isis
Birdie can be installed from our PPA, which provides automatic updates whenever we improve the application.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:birdie-team/stable sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install birdie
After done installing, next is to add Twitter account, Here, you can add an existing account by clicking on ‘Add an existing Twitter account’. Login with your credentials and Birdie will be ready in a few seconds. Your account is now associated with Birdie.

Adding multiple Twitter accounts
Birdie has support for multiple accounts. To add additional accounts, click over your profile image on Birdie’s toolbar and choose ‘Add Account’, as illustrated below.
